 The Speciality Of Hammer Mills

Hammer mills are machines that are extensively used for grinding, chipping, crushing and cutting solid material of various types. This machine possesses a compact design and is easy to install. A hammer mill is mostly recommended for powdering poultry feed, spices, minerals, herbs, chemicals and grains in bulk quantities. It is capable of grinding every type of pellet materials such as broken cake pellet, legumes, grain, sorghum and corn among others. Such machines are ideally suited for processing applications particularly grinding or fine crushing and drying of medium-hard to soft materials as well as e-waste recycled products. The industrial uses of a hammer mill comprises of a wide array of recycling operations namely stone crushing, bio-fuel production and pulp for the production of paper. The list of materials that can be processed via this machine includes metal shavings, electronic waste, rock salt, dolomite, lignite, fertilizer and limestone. The speciality about hammer mills is that these do not lead to any food wastage and also do not pose any pollution hazards.

Spare Parts

A hammer mill comprises of several spare parts which together provides precision. These include:

  • Rotor
  • Cabinet
  • Counter linings
  • Hammer
  • Sieve

Wide area of application

A hammer mill finds application in varied industries that mills different types of grains into coarse material. These include;

  • Fruit juice production
  • Milling grain
  • Shredding paper
  • Ethanol plants
  • Farm machines
  • Waste management

Robust design

Hammer mills are specially designed  with heavy-duty base frame for withstanding heavy loads while grinding fibrous and tough materials such as biomass. The mass of these machines is capable of absorbing any vibrations and the rigid frames enable very small clearances amid the hammer and the screen. Together with the very high speed of the hammer tip, this machine guarantees efficient smooth grinding under fine running conditions.

Working principle

A hammer mill has a grinding chamber along with a motor having grates and beaters attached at the bottom. Here the gap is dependent based on the required fineness and the fineness is balanced with the gap of the grate, the hammer shape and the speed of the rotors. The material is fed via the feed hopper. The materials get crushed into powered form as the rotor begins to rotate at a high speed and gets discharged via the grates that are to be collected to a collector or in a chamber.

Special attributes of hammer mills

  • Easy opening arrangement
  • Comes with grater plates that ensures efficient pulverizing
  • Simple and sturdy construction
  • Specially designed hardened tempered rectangular beaters
  • Improved grinding efficiency
  • Mounted on single base frame along with shock proof rubber padding
  • Minimal power consumption
  • Retains flavour, colour and taste to optimum level
  • Hassle free and economical maintenance
  • Consistent performance
  • Almost dust-free operation
  • Low temperature rise for materials that are heat sensitive

Hammer mills is vital tool used for crushing or shredding materials into finer pieces. As a result it has become an integral part of many agricultural, researches, residential and industrial applications. It boasts of a high speed and is specially engineered as per the specifications given by the customers.
